Love this photo frame!!5
I love this photo frame. I brought it from a sony style store for same price. It has excellent picture quality and many display settings. I mainly brought it because it had the clock/calendar and photo display. I have one at home and one in my office. The crystal design looks lovely. This would really be a great gift. I have not used other digital frames, so really cannot compare to others. This is my first purchase and the best.
Fashion digital photo frame5
When i opened the box, I just couldn't believe how beautiful it was. The swarosvki crystalized elements give this photo frame a look that no other photo frame has. It makes it delicate and elegant at the same time. The whole frame is black and shiny. The picture quality is very good, not HD, but very good. It actually has different types of views. You can see your picture with the calendar on the side, or even with the clock on the side. It can also show you only the clock and the calendar and you can choose from different types of clocks and calendars.
It has a remote control that can help you change from picture to picture. You can add your pictures in different ways since it has access through SD*MS/Pro*MMC*XD and USB drive.
Best present ever5
Beautiful photo frame. I got it as gift from my classmates which I haven't seen for 12 years and easy added 4GB pictures made for the past 8 years. Keep it at my office desk at work and enjoy it every day. Great gift, great pictures quality and memories.

Customer Reviews

Stunning display, even for a photo geek.5
I got this one rather than the V1000 because, as the "fancier" model, it would hopefully have the best possible display. This was my goal, to get the frame with the best possible display, as I'm into photography and that's important to me. If you're into using Photoshop and Lightroom and color-managed workflow and displays, you can be confident that this frame is . . .uh . .. AWESOME! Even though you can't profile it like you would a monitor, I was VERY pleasantly surprised with it's out-of-the-box display characteristics. Like others have commented re the other Sony models, the color balance is just a tiny bit cool, but the resolution is stunning, the contrast is stunning, the blacks are black and the whites are white. Just remember to turn off the "auto-fix-your-image" settings if you've finessed your image already and want it displayed accurately, without any "improvements."

I haven't run into the "baseline jpgs only" problem yet, which means, apparently, that Lightroom outputs baseline jpgs. So if you're going to export pics from Lightroom to your card for the frame, you don't have to worry about it, they'll work.

I was really blown away by the screen quality, actually, because this is my first digital frame; the "glowing LCD" factor makes this about 20x nicer to set on my desk at work and display pictures than any print, no matter how nicely printed and lit.

The frame's features are adequate for what I want (simple slideshow going all day on my desk). The only complaint I have isthat there is no slide duration between 5 minutes and 30 minutes . . . (15 would have been nice).
Super Good but Pricey5
I looked at all the frames at Frys abd Best Buy. The Sony SFrames had the deepest blacks and the whitest whites and photos really pop. Storage is plenty and file transfer and management all nicely done.

The slide show/view functions are great - clocks, calendars, when it was shot etc - but amazingly when you set it on "Random picture" and 'Random view" you see what seems like another hundred variations of layouts/calendars/scrapbook backgrounds not shown in the menu or the manual.

Drawbacks: doesn't play video. Expensive.
Excellen quality5
I think this digital photo frame is great. The quality is excellent and the set up is easy. I can easily navigate through the features. I had a bunch of baby pictures scanned for my daughters graduation, downloaded to a flash drive and I just plugged it in and let it play. The images were crystal clear. I highly recommend this product.

Almost perfect5
I looked at several brands of digital photo frames. Every time I came back to the Sony because it stands out for picture quality, sharpness, features (lots of features), ease of operation. Even if immediately you don't think you would use all of the features, pay the money and get it anyway. You'll be surprised how all of a sudden one or more of those features is a neat thing to have. The internal memory is large, slideshow, individual view, and picture selection from any source is so simple you can start using most of the features right out of the box. Even the owners manual is extremely user friendly. Yes the price was a bit much but put the Sony next to the others on the market and there is no comparison for picture quality. One downside: you have to use a power cord. I found a couple of portable power sources but power plug on the Sony is not the typical power recepticle found on most products. Thanks Sony....how about making a portable source available? I would love to place the frame on a table for display without having to find a place to plug it in. I found only one brand of frame with a built in battery but the picture quality was no where near the Sony so I opted for the Sony hoping that I could find a portable power pack or hope I will always have a place to plug it in. Price is starting to come down so be patient if price is your obstacle. It is well worth the wait.
This is the first digital frame that I have liked...4
...and I've owned four of them.

My requirements were pretty simple -- a high-quality LCD and the ability to play from a large selection of pictures, either randomly (my preference) or by shoot date (my wife's preference). I went through three frames that choked on large numbers of pictures, had washed-out displays, and/or couldn't play randomly or sequentially. I was surprised by how poorly conceived and tested these frames were. (Here's a prior rant on the Digital Foci IMT-081 Image Moments Digital Photo Frame.)

But the DPF-V900 is a fine frame. It has a clean design; has a sharp, bright LCD; and has no problem with my 4300 pictures (and is good for up to 10,000, according to the manual).

Bottom line is that, while not perfect, the DPF-V900 is a real product from a real company that has done some real quality control. As far as I can tell, that's the state of the art in the digital frame business right now.

Good picture quality, but not recommended due to image compatibility issues1
First of all, the image quality is good. Now that we got that out of the way, I felt very compelled to write this review because as a few others have stated, this frame has compatibility issues with files that have been editted via photoshop, or even simple renaming files like infranview. all i actually did was just download files off of an online photo album (smugmug), and the files would load with question marks. Some have experienced the same, and as one reviewer said (Alex), he had to convert the files to BMP in order for them to show up. When loading photos, it takes a while for the files to transfer, or even recognize external media. The auto correct mode also does not work very well. I got this as a present for my grandparents, and luckily, they wont be tinkering with it much often. But for a photo person like myself, be careful of the hassle you'll experience with this frame. For a $200 frame, I expect more from Sony. Once again, for those who have bought this frame and experiencing the ? mark issue with file recognition, you need to convert the files to bmp in order for them to load correctly. I found a review on here that saved the day for me, so i hope this helps somebody else as well.

An entry level digital photo frame with a high quality display4
The DPF-D72 is another entry level DPF from Sony. The D72 and the cheaper DPF-A72 both share a 7" display, but the D72 comes with an additional glossy glass-like panel that protects the LCD panel. Also, the D72 has an internal memory of 1GB for storing pictures, whereas the A72 comes with just 128MB for the same purpose. The D72 also supports CF cards, whereas the A72 does not.

Perhaps what sets the D72 apart from the affordable DPF-A72 is the quality of the display. At 800x480 pixels, the pixel density of the LCD display is very high, making well exposed photographs pop in front of your eyes. The image processor and the LCD screen (clear-photo LCD) also render colors faithfully, making sure the pictures look as good as they do on the frame as they do on your computer screen. Unlike the D72, the LCD screen of the A72 suffers from oversaturation in the green and yellow region, and the displayed images look somewehat pixelated with the lower resolution screen (480x234).

The D72 costs substantially more than the A72, which probably explains the difference in quality of the LCD panels. However, like the A72, the D72 comes without a USB cable, which is strange given the price of the frame. Although not entirely necessary, the USB cable allows easy and direct management of the photos in the photo frame's memory, so you don't have to copy the files to a memory card and feed it into the frame's memory through the built-in card reader.

Sony indicated that the device has a backlight life of 20,000 hours (before the brightness drops to 50 percent), so you might want to keep the backlight level at around level 5 (the default is 10) and switch the frame off when you are not in the room.

The device also comes with a handy remote control that runs on a single lithium ion battery, so you can control the slideshow and viewing mode without accessing the control buttons on the back of the frame.
Great picture quality, easy to use4
I purchased two of these as gifts and spent some time loading images onto each before giving them to others. While the manual was somewhat difficult to interpret, the actual process of getting images onto the frame could not have been easier. I have a mac and use iPhoto for images. The frame screen is 800x480 pixels, so I simply cropped a set of images to those dimensions and exported them as jpegs. I connected the frame using a USB cable (not included) and the frame popped up as an external device. I dragged my images onto the frame, unplugged the USB, and voila the frame rebooted and started displaying my images. Couldn't be easier.

Lots of extra options and settings to customize the experience, I left most of those alone except I did toggle the sony logo off on both of them since the frames look sleeker without the brand name.

Very happy; I'll likely pick up a third one of these for myself.
As good as it gets5
I liked this frame so much, I bought two. One for my parents and one for my family. The features are great, I like that it can double as a clock. Ease of use is well...easy! Pop in a memory card or plug into a PC via USB to use the 1gb of on board memory. Picture quality only slightly suffers when a picture outside the native display dimensions is loaded up. When a cropped picture for this frame is displayed, the results are spectacular. For a bigger room you probably want to get a bigger frame, but as an accent or in a smaller room I recommend this frame without hesitation.

Elegant beautiful centerpiece with amazing picture quality.4
I've been on the market for picture frame after purchasing an affordable kodak picture frame for my girlfriend. I decided our apartment was not going to be like my aunt's where there is a family picture lining every wall in the home. I wanted something that could look good even turned off. This is it. Of course Sony brings their aesthetic talents to create sophisticated beautiful looking frame. The picture frame is solid glossy black and the Sony logo glows bright white when turned on. You also have the option of turning off the logo if it cramps your style. The picture quality is crystal clear, bright and sharp even on my old scanned photos. The viewing options are plentiful and fade in and out flawlessly kind of drawing you in the show. I love the calender and clock settings which gives this frame a practical use. You can choose only the calendar, only the clock or both with pictures at the same time on a side box.

Now the bad: It not only requires a power cord but the end has a buldge wich made it very hard for me to conceal the power cord on my bookcase. I had to hide the power cord since it would not slip in through the cracks on the back of my bookcase. This also makes it a no go for coffee table. It's very noticible when it's out in the open. Luckily I hid it very well and it's not noticible in my case. The only other bad point is the price. It is quite expensive for picture fram but you can clearly see why. It's so sophisticated looking that it looks expnsive. The lcd looks like it's thick glass and the black frame is glossy. No doubt the materials used were quality materials.

If you have the money, I highly recommend it. Also, I bought this on the Sony website for 139.00. As usual amazon comes out with a deal after I buy it. So if you do buy it, buy it from amazon.
For the effort...3
I will add pro's and con's at the end of this message. First I would like to say that this frame caught my eye when I was shopping for a Christmas present for my sister and her husband. This is my first photo frame but I have purchased three, Sony being the one I purchased for myself. I really like the small size of the frame and I especially like that the frame is not three dimensional (i.e. regular wood, plastic or metal frames with glass protector) but one piece with a plastic covering and the digital viewer inside. I shopped around for several: HP, Kodak, Hanspree... but found that this frame best suited my needs. Now fo the pro's and con's:

Pro's:
-Sony brand
-Small compact size, making it one piece
-All the features including the multipicture viewing, clock, calendar and random playback
-Automatic image orientation
-remote

Con's:
-Sony brand, which means Sony price...
-Lack of MP3 playback
-Lack of Video playback (My mothers Target brand frame I got her had these features and I bought it for her when digital frames were just coming out! Sony had how many years to remedy this??)
-AC Adapter placement in the back of the frame (it is practically placed right where the prop up stand is located making it sort of a headache to navigate the cord and stand)
-Random feature very often plays pictures you've just viewed. I have nearly 400 pictures in my frame and it plays the same several photos more often than the ones I have not seen)
-Lack of Shuffle feature
Best picture, not optimal pixel ratio5
As others have said, this has the best image quality I've seen on a frame (better than lots of cheaper lcd tvs actually). It is night and day better than our previous frame. The border is clean, and the frame looks very smooth. My only complaint (recommendation to others considering this purchase) would be to consider the 8 inch over the 7 if you just plan to copy pictures over from your camera. I prefer the image to fill up the frame, and since the 7inch ratio is 15:9 I had to crop the images to get them to fit the frame fully without any black borders. The 8 and 10 inch frames use a 4:3 ratio, which is the same as both of ours (and I assume most) digital cameras, without the need for adjustment.

Another suggestion to those considering just using the internal memory is to batch resize the photos, so instead of taking up 3-5Mb a picture with a higher res camers (this only fits around 100 pictures on the 512Mb internal, and 1/2 that on the 256) the images will only take up around 100k. You can do this easily by searching for the XP Powertoys Image resizer for WinXP, or Prish Resizer for Vista. Then you can select all your photos at once, and resize them all to 800x600 (the resolution of the 8 and 10 inch, and the x-resolution of the 7inch). This will save you lots of space, and let you pack a lot more pictures on sony's relativly small internal memory, and you will not see a difference in the image quality, since sony has to downsize the image on display anyway to make it fit the 800x600, or 800x480 for 7inch frames.
